POWER PULLING ASSOCIATION

Policy Statement

The Power Pulling Association (PPA) will take all reasonable steps to ensure the safety of all club members using or working on Power Pulling Machinery as well as to ensure the safety of all other persons who may be affected by the machinery. The PPA will seek to liaise with club members to ensure that all existing and new machinery is designed and built to work in a safe manner, and will seek to inform and train members to implement this policy.

Should members have any problems relating to safety they should immediately inform a responsible person (usually the club Safety Officer, technical scrutineer or chairman) so that steps can be taken to remedy the situation promptly.

The implementation of the policy needs the co-operation of all members, and the person responsible for implementing this policy is the chairman.

Arrangements

The PPA will in consultation with members, operators and any other affected persons :

a) Assess the operation of club machinery which will include assessment of controls, the visibility of any operating parts that need to be seen and the accessibility of parts that need to be adjusted or changed

b) Carry out an assessment of how the use of club machinery affects the environment including the layout of the machine and operating areas, and any barriers that are needed to prevent members of the public coming within the danger zone.

c) Carry out an assessment of all guards, all isolation procedures of any part of the club machinery and all emergency procedures. Compliance with the PPA club rule book and PPA tractor build books will be the norm.

d) Carry out an assessment of any chemicals involved with the club Machinery and its use, maintenance or cleaning (in compliance with COSHH).

e) Take all reasonable steps to minimise all the risks found from these assessments.

f) Operate in accordance with the HSE publication “Health and Safety at Motor Sports Events”

which includes the provision of recommended signs for trackside and the availability of

hearing protection for a small charge for those persons who request it.

The PPA will assess the overall safety of individual events and in conjunction with the event’s organisers and Safety Officer will ensure that all reasonable steps are taken to preserve the safety of the PPA members, events employees and general public at all times.
